Today's card shows the bay with its numbered islands only, your time band, streak and the days to launch; a card for an earlier day shows that day's bridges. Never today's answer.

The whole bay must end up as one network. 7×7 on weekdays, 8×8 at the weekend, a 5×5 warm-up, one hint, a streak, personal bests and a spoiler-free result to share. A fan puzzle on an imagined bay.

How to play

The bay holds numbered islands. Build bridges straight across or straight down between neighbouring islands, one or two per pair, so that every island touches exactly as many bridges as its number; bridges never cross and never leap over an island, and in the end every island must be reachable from every other. Tap an island, then its neighbour in the same row or column: the first tap builds one bridge, the second makes it a double, the third clears it, and the selection follows your finger along the chain. Undo takes back the last change and Clear wipes the bay. An island over its number turns red, a bridge that crosses another turns red, and a green ring marks an island that has exactly its number. Every bay is checked when the site is built to have exactly one answer, found by a search that settles quickly, so a little reasoning always beats guessing.

Tip one: count the neighbours. An island can only reach the nearest island in each of the four directions, and each of those takes at most two bridges. A 1 with a single neighbour, a 4 with two neighbours, a 6 with three or an 8 with four has no choice at all: build every bridge it can. A 3 with two neighbours must touch both, and a 7 needs a double to three of its four neighbours and at least one to the fourth. Tip two: a 1 never joins another 1, and a 2 never takes a double to another 2, because that pair would be cut off from the rest of the bay. The same idea decides the end: when two groups of islands have only one way left to meet, that bridge must be built. Fill the forced bridges first, mark what each island still needs, and the middle untangles.

Everyone gets the same bay on the same UTC day: 7×7 with six to nine islands on weekdays, 8×8 with nine to twelve at the weekend, and newcomers can switch on the 5×5 warm-up, which still counts. One hint a day builds or removes one bridge on the island you have selected and marks the result as assisted. When the last island lights up, the bay lights island by island and the bay map signs off with your time. The archive lets you play any earlier day's bay and practice bays come from a spare pool; both are marked and never count. Island Bridges is a fan puzzle with made-up island names on an imagined bay; nothing here is a map of the game or of any real place, and nothing is presented as official. Questions

What are the rules?

Every island shows a number. Join the islands with bridges that run straight across or straight down to the nearest island in that line, one or two bridges between a pair, so that each island's number equals the bridges touching it. Bridges never cross each other and never leap over an island, and when you are done every island is reachable from every other. Every bay here has exactly one answer.

How do I place a bridge?

Tap an island, then tap its neighbour in the same row or column: one tap builds a single bridge, a second tap makes it a double, a third clears it. The selection moves to the island you tapped, so you can keep going along a chain. Tap the selected island again to deselect. On a keyboard the arrows move between islands, Enter selects or cycles, 1 and 2 set the bridge count outright, Backspace removes it and Escape cancels.

What do the highlights mean?

An island turns red when it has more bridges than its number; a bridge turns red when it crosses another. A green ring means the island has exactly its number. All three only check the rules, never the answer. Undo takes back the last change and Clear wipes the bay. One hint a day builds or removes one bridge on the island you have selected and marks the result as assisted.

What is the warm-up?

A 5×5 bay with four or five islands for newcomers, switched on with the Warm-up toggle (remembered on this device). It counts as the day's solve; the 7×7 weekday and 8×8 weekend bays are what the best times and the Bay Builder card are about.

Is this a map of anything?

No. Island Bridges is a fan logic puzzle on an imagined bay. The island names (Keys Reef, Vice Channel, Port Spur and friends) are made up, the layouts are random, and nothing here is a map of the game or of any real place. Nothing is presented as official.
