The Leonida Keys are the chain of small islands at the southern tip of the state. They are also where Jason Duval's story starts, so they matter to the plot as well as the map.

Rockstar calls the Keys a gateway to paradise: a tropical island chain where dress is casual and the bars are well stocked. Life there is relaxed rather than showy. The official text warns that the islands sit next to some of America's most beautiful and most dangerous waters. It is home turf for Jason, Cal and Brian Heder.^[1][2]

Real-world inspiration

The Florida Keys.^[7]

The obvious inspiration is the Florida Keys: bridges, marinas, fishing boats and a slower pace of life. The islands have long been part of Florida's smuggling history, which fits the official description of Brian Heder moving product through the islands.

On our map the Keys are drawn as an island chain curving south-west from the mainland. The only officially named location so far is Brian Heder's boat yard, which is shown at region level until Rockstar reveals its position.
